Pittsburgh! A Food Lovers Tahn!

Note...a few of this booze pics aren't from Pitt :)  Jared and I were in Manhattan Beach...Bottom right is me at Yankee Stadium and Tin Cup with firebomb is from camping in Kentucky.
It’s no secret that Pittsburgh is turning into a major MAJOR player in the US food scene.  We have been talked about in the NY Times and recently a Zagat survey named us the best food city!
And being that I absolutely love LOVE to eat and drink it is no surprise that I have enjoyed some of the places that folks are dying to get to!

The ladies and I after drinks at Butcher and Rye and dinner at Tako.

A major hot spot in our town is Tako. I've been there a few times and I have never ever been let down. The Korean taco and the spicy cucumber margarita are Pam101 faves.  Oh and if you do get into Tako , make an effort to pop over to Butcher and Rye (which is right next door) and grab a drink there too. Because the cocktails and food at Butcher and Rye are hella good.
Bakn breakfast sandwich is perfect for dinner! And can we talk about what a great idea to serve things in measuring cups!
Another Pam101 pick is Bakn.  Bakn is located in the small neighborhood of Carnegie.  The atmosphere, the cocktails and the food are all winners.  I had the breakfast sandwich both times I have been there (with fries) and dang sista…worth going back for!

Smallman Galley
And lastly…there was Smallman Galley.  The concept of this place is awesome.  There are 4 restaurants inside and they each get 18 months to run their business.  Think of it as test running to see if you can make it as a real-deal/brick mortar business.  You pick and choose what you want from the counters and have it sent over to your table.  The girls and I picked a variety of dishes and while I can’t remember everything we had the highlights were:
  • From Provisions: Bread and Butter (best I have ever had) and Provision Smothers Fries
  • Josephine’s Toast:  Shrimp Toast
  • Carota Café: Horseradish Gnocchi
And don’t even get me started on how great the drinks were! They had a total Yinzer Pittsburgh Pirate theme menu with some cocktails that totally hit a homerun! Oh and happy hour was from 5-7pm!
